We're Explore Australia Tours — a local operation proudly supported by Searoad Ferries. The Searoad Ferries group of companies is all about connecting people and places through unforgettable tourism and travel experiences. With over 250 dedicated staff, we have been proudly operating award‑winning transport, tourism, and hospitality services since 1987, including our iconic Queenscliff–Sorrento ferry route and a growing hospitality portfolio.
With two state‑of‑the‑art ferry terminals at Queenscliff and Sorrento, we are home to food outlets, bars, kiosks, and amazing seaside dining experiences overlooking Port Phillip Bay. We also operate Western Port Ferries — providing services between Stony Point, French Island and Phillip Island in Western Port Bay — as well as Wanderer Adventures at Wilsons Promontory, where we deliver premium nature‑based experiences that connect visitors to the coastline, wildlife, and landscapes of 'The Prom'.
Our growing bus tour company, Explore Australia Tours, connects local and international customers to amazing tourism and wildlife experiences across Victoria and we're on the lookout for people to join our team.
The Opportunity
Join Explore Australia Tours as a Driver/Guide and be the face of our small-group day tours from Melbourne. You’ll lead carefully crafted trips that showcase the best of Victoria while enjoying a work-life balance—most days you’ll be home in time for dinner.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver safe, engaging and memorable tours that exceed guest expectations
- Drive modern automatic minibuses and 4WDs (including occasional off‑road service vehicles) on a variety of routes
- Share local knowledge, stories and practical tips that bring each destination to life
- Curate the guest experience—from commentary and stops to music and atmosphere
- Work with the Operations Manager and other team members to maintain high service standards and customer safety.
The places you’ll go:
Our tours depart from our Footscray depot and visit Victoria’s standout locations, including:
- Wilsons Promontory (including amphibious boat cruises to Skull Rock)
- Great Ocean Road and the Twelve Apostles
- Mornington Peninsula and Peninsula Hot Springs
- Phillip Island (Penguin Parade) and Moonlit Sanctuary Wildlife Park
- Puffing Billy and the Dandenong Ranges rainforest
- Bellarine and around-the-bay sightseeing with lunch cruises aboard Searoad Ferries' Queenscliff-Sorrento service
- Food and wine experiences across Bellarine and Mornington peninsulas
- French Island National Park and off-grid, nature-focused tours (starting from Stony Point) — these use our rugged all‑terrain vehicle, 'Bruce'.
Hours and flexibility:
- Opportunity to curate your own hours with generally structured days so you’re home most evenings
- Occasional weekend and early/late starts may be required depending on tour schedules.
About You
You’re the kind of Guide who creates lasting memories. You combine excellent driving skills with genuine local knowledge and a calm, customer-focused approach. You anticipate needs, handle logistics smoothly, and bring enthusiasm for Victoria’s landscapes, wildlife, and communities.
Minimum requirements:
- Full driver’s licence — minimum Light Rigid, Medium Rigid preferred
- Current Victorian Driver Accreditation
- Current First Aid Certificate (recommended or willingness to obtain).
Desirable attributes:
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Comfortable driving on highways, coastal roads and occasional off‑road terrain
- Knowledge of local history, flora/fauna and food producers
- Flexible, reliable, and able to work varied start times (including occasional weekends)
- Positive, professional presentation and the ability to manage small groups.
